Roger Williams Park Botanical Center
Designer/Builder: Rough Brothers, Inc.
A living greenhouse complex nestled within the historic Roger Williams Park in Providence, Rhode Island. As the largest indoor garden display in New England, the Botanical Center spans over 12,000 square feet of greenhouse space and includes an additional 40,000 square feet of beautifully landscaped outdoor gardens. The center features two main greenhouses, showcasing a wide range of tropical and subtropical plant species - from palms, orchids, and bromeliads to cycads, ferns, and lush vines.
The interior environments are designed to immerse visitors in vibrant, carefully maintained biomes that evoke a sense of serene otherworldliness, even in the depths of a New England winter. Winding paths lead past koi ponds, rock formations, and seasonal floral displays, creating a multi-sensory experience that blends architecture and horticulture into a continuous unfolding.
The Botanical Center serves as a public attraction and as a hub for environmental education, horticultural therapy, and community programming. Its role as a civic space is central - welcoming visitors of all ages to explore the beauty and intelligence of plant life in a setting that bridges the cultivated and the wild.
