Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden
Architect: Glave & Holmes Architecture
A vibrant 82-acre landscape that seamlessly blends horticultural artistry with architectural elegance. Established in 1984 on the historic grounds of Bloemendaal Farm, the garden fulfills philanthropist Grace Arents’ vision of creating a botanical haven in honor of her uncle, Lewis Ginter. The garden’s master plan was developed in 1987 by Environmental Planning and Design, in collaboration with Marcellus, Wright, Cox & Smith, and later refined by Rodney Robinson Landscape Architects and Higgins and Associates.
At the heart of the garden stands the classical glass-domed Conservatory, the only one of its kind in the mid-Atlantic. This architectural centerpiece houses diverse plant collections, including seasonal displays and a tropical butterfly exhibit, offering visitors an immersive experience of botanical wonders.
The garden features over a dozen themed areas, such as the Rose Garden, Asian Valley, and Children’s Garden, each designed to showcase the rich diversity of plant life.
